David Barberá receives a prize for the best article on entrepreneurship

David Barberá, Researcher at Ingenio (CSIC-UPV) and Associate Professor in Department of Engineering Projects affiliated to the ETSII, earned the Organization and Management Theory (OMT) Entrepreneurship Division Best Paper Award in the 75th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management Meeting, to be held in Vancouver 7-11 August, 2015. The prize is awarded to the article (in collaboration with Itziar Castelló, the Carlos III University) "The Midway Albatross and the Barthes' Online Barber: Cultural Entrepreneurship and the Role of Visuals Frame Alignment in Interactive Processes ", which analyzes the strategies of mobilization in Facebook used by leaders of social movements. The paper shows how these social entrepreneurs employ "cultural tools" (specifically, images capable of strong "emotional motivation") to achieve their goals. The Academy of Management was founded in 1936, has 20,000 members in 115 countries and is the "preeminent professional association" in the field of organizational studies and management. It is the first time that a research paper presented by Spanish academics gets a prize awarded by the OMT Division, in this case for advancing “understanding of entrepreneurship through organization theory and management".
