The financial crisis has important implications for national R&D systems, with impacts at all levels of research funding, performance and governance. Through an incisive view of the recent history of the Greek R&D system, as reconstructed through available statistics and qualitative stories, the seminar will highlight the impacts of the crisis and will discuss the opportunities and constraints posed by the financial crisis to the reform of national R&D systems in the European context.

About Nikos Kastrinos

Nikos Kastrinos is a policy officer in DG RTD of the European Commission. He has recently served as an advisor to the Greek government on matters of research policy and to the Cypriot Presidency of the European Union. In the European Commission he has worked on the development of Technology Assessment and other strategic inititives, as well as for the development of EU research in social sciences and humanities, with a special emphasis on the European Research Area.
Before joining the European Commission he was a research fellow at the University of Manchester. His interests lie with the politics and economics of R&D and innovation.
