ABSTRACT: This talk consists of a reflective journey through my career as a young scholar exploring social and methodological innovation. I will begin by sharing formative experiences that shaped my research interests and culminated in my PhD thesis on arts-based city-making in the peripheries of Latin American cities. From there, I will discuss my current work at INGENIO focused on the green and democratic transitions of European cities. Finally, I will outline my long-term academic aspirations.

Throughout the presentation, I will use the concept of “collective music-making” in three interconnected ways: 1) literally, as a social practice where people come together to perform music; 2) figuratively, as a metaphor for broader social phenomena that unite communities around shared goals; 3) methodologically, as an innovative research approach that leverages creative practices to surface knowledge in novel and thrilling ways.

BIO: Soy un músico y arquitecto valenciano convertido en investigador-actor en estudios urbanos. Mi investigación aborda la importancia de los procesos colectivos artísticos y creativos para “hacer ciudad” desde las periferias urbanas. Durante mis estudios de máster en MIT y de doctorado en Cornell University (EE. UU.), he dedicado los últimos siete años a estudiar y colaborar con iniciativas culturales comunitarias en las periferias de ciudades latinoamericanas como Oaxaca, São Paulo y Medellín. Como investigador postdoctoral en INGENIO, me centraré en el estudio de los procesos colaborativos necesarios para lograr ciudades europeas más justas y sostenibles para todos los colectivos que las habitan, y me comprometo a orientar mis procesos de investigación-acción hacia el diseño y la implementación de políticas públicas y prácticas sociales viables.
