Joaquín és Investigador Científic en Ciències Socials Interdisciplinàries en ENGINY (CSIC-UPV).
La seua investigació se centra en la generació de coneixement científic, la transferència i intercanvi de coneixement entre ciència, indústria i societat, la comunicació científica, la comprensió pública de la ciència i la psicologia dels investigadors. Publica en revistes com The Journal of Technology Transfer, Research Evaluation, Research Policy o Scientometrics.
Abans d'incorporar-se a ENGINY, Joaquín va ser professor titular a la Universitat Politècnica de València, investigador en el Centre Comú d'Investigació de la Comissió Europea (JRC) i en l'Institut de Polítiques i Béns Públics (CSIC). Ha realitzat estades en centres internacionals com el CWTS (Leiden), BETA (Estrasburg), GREThA (Bordeus) o CINDOC (Madrid).
Joaquín ha liderat diversos projectes com a investigador principal i ha col·laborat regularment amb empreses, fundacions i administracions públiques. Ha dirigit un contracte per a la Comissió Europea (Identificació de socis potencials d'H2020 per a dos regions portugueses en Manufactura i Economia Circular) i ha contribuït a nombrosos informes.
Ha organitzat esdeveniments internacionals com la Conferència de la Technology Transfer Society en 2018, així com sessions especials en altres congressos. Ha escrit set articles en revistes o blogs (per exemple: Research Europe, University-Industry Innovation Magazine, Res és Gratis o El País), i ha sigut entrevistat i ha impartit seminaris dirigits a audiències no acadèmiques.
Joaquín ha supervisat a diversos doctorands, becaris d'iniciació a la investigació i estudiants en estades d'investigació.Ha impartit classes en programes de doctorat, seminaris de formació i tallers. També ha estat involucrat en el suport a les spin-offs universitàries a la Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).
