RESUM

Abstract: This presentation examines how public funding shapes the direction of health research, drawing on large-scale analysis of funded projects and scientific publications across European Framework Programmes, the European Research Council, and the U.S. National Institutes of Health. The findings show a significant shift in collaborative European funding toward patient-oriented, population-level, and health systems research, alongside the continued centrality of basic biomedical science in research outputs. The talk discusses the implications for science policy, particularly regarding the complementarity of funding instruments and the conditions under which policy priorities translate into research trajectories.
