The INGENIO Institute (CSIC-UPV) continues to advance its participation in the MaX-CSIC project by carrying out coordination activities and promoting scientific excellence.

During the month of April, the CSIC-UPV joint center carried out strategic activities as part of MaX-CSIC, a project aimed at fostering scientific excellence across CSIC centers. Among the actions undertaken, a coordination meeting of the focal areas stands out. These areas correspond to the research lines of the scientific plan designed for the MaX project. Representatives from INGENIO’s five research areas took part in this meeting, sharing key aspects of their work plans and defining joint synergies.

Focal Area 4 organized an internal training session for INGENIO staff on science mapping, entitled “Mapping and Visualization of Scientific Publication Data.” The session explored how to visually construct bibliometric networks in order to gain a deeper understanding of the structure of science, using the VOSviewer software.

Another key event organized this month within the framework of the MaX project was the meeting with the Scientific Advisory Board, attended by the MaX Steering Group. This meeting served to review the milestones achieved by INGENIO, as well as the challenges and objectives for the coming months.

INGENIO within the MaX-CSIC project

The DEEP-MaX Excellence CSIC project aims to promote the scientific and organizational excellence of CSIC research centers. To this end, it establishes a system of three seals that recognize progress achieved at different stages and provides funding to consolidate these improvements.

The program is structured in three phases, two of which INGENIO has already completed. The first phase consists of an internal self-assessment followed by an external evaluation by a committee, after which the ASPIRA-MaX Excellence seal “Josefa Barba” is awarded.

In the second phase, INGENIO developed a scientific project and an excellence plan which, after evaluation, enabled the institute to obtain the “Sagrario Martínez Carrera” seal. One of the main contributions of these documents was the articulation of focal areas as working spaces designed to strengthen internal capacities and enhance scientific impact.

Within these focal areas, the institute’s main research lines were defined, including transitions towards sustainability; governance of science, technology and innovation; collaborative processes in the generation and application of knowledge, science, technology and human capital; and finally, cultural dimensions of science, technology and innovation.

INGENIO is currently in the third phase, focused on the implementation of the scientific project and the excellence plan. To ensure their execution, the institute has launched the activities of its five focal areas, promoting initiatives in training, international cooperation, and engagement with stakeholders.

This coordination effort is complemented by improvements in internal protocols and communication, the mapping of research capacities, and the upcoming publication of the institute’s annual report. In addition, the institute has strengthened its technical and management structure by incorporating specialized staff, thereby consolidating the team needed to achieve the objectives of this phase.
