Alejandra Boni is a Full Professor at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and a researcher at the Ingenio Research Institute (CSIC-UPV). She is also an Extraordinary Professor at the University of the Free State (South Africa) and coordinator of the European Hub for Transformative Innovation Policy. The Hub is a joint initiative of TIPC, an international consortium that brings together leading European research institutes and national governments committed to working on science, technology and innovation policy, and Eu-SPRI, the European forum for studies on science and innovation policy.

She is the Principal Investigator of a contract with the Regional Government of Catalonia to develop a smart specialization strategy based on transformative innovation policy (2020–present). She also participates in the European project Green Demo, which supports sustainable and democratic transitions in European cities, where she coordinates the community of practice and the evaluation component.

She has authored 130 international and national publications in fields such as human development, innovation, education, participation, technology, and sustainability,

including journal articles, books, and book chapters. Many of these works have been co-authored with international scholars. Her research focuses on transformative innovation policy, social innovation, higher education, and human development. She is an expert in the use of participatory methodologies for the co-design, implementation, and evaluation of policy initiatives in the areas of transformative evaluation, development education, and participatory policies. She has extensive experience in development education and global citizenship education.

Between 2011 and 2025, she has served as Principal Investigator for 15 research projects funded by international, national, and local calls, and for 11 contracts with national and local public and private institutions. She has been a visiting researcher at Institut Mines-Telecom Business School, Évry-France (2022); Universidad Autónoma Latinoamericana, Medellín-Colombia (2019); University College London, United Kingdom (2016–2017); New York University, USA (2011); Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Netherlands (2009); and the University of Sussex, United Kingdom (2007).

She is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Human Development and Capabilities. In September 2019, she received the Grand Challenge Prize from University College London for her significant engagement between academics and practitioners. In 2023, she was recognized by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) for her outstanding track record in supervising doctoral students.
