About

My research sits at the intersection of health sciences, science policy, and the science of science. I study how public funding shapes the direction, organization, and impact of research, with a particular focus on health systems and the Global South. My work combines large-scale data analysis, scientometrics, and supervised text classification to examine the relationship between funding priorities and scientific outputs.

I obtained my PhD in Health Policy and Management from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), where I was awarded the Alfonso Caso Medal as the top graduate of my cohort. I have held postdoctoral positions in Europe, including a fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Berlin and a research position at KU Leuven.

My research has informed international policy discussions and has been cited in policy documents by institutions such as the European Parliament, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. It has also been cited as evidence in the case President and Fellows of Harvard College v. United States Department of Health and Human Services, et al.

In addition to academic publications, I have contributed to policy-oriented reports, including Fostering coherence in EU health research: Strengthening EU research for better health (European Parliament) and the Plan estratégico de investigación de IMSS Bienestar in Mexico.

I am currently working at INGENIO (CSIC-UPV) as a researcher, where I will continue to investigate the intersection of policy, funding, regulations and innovation.
