The EU-funded project aims to develop tools and recommendations to advance more responsible and inclusive research assessment systems.
INGENIO (CSIC-UPV) is participating in REALISE, a new European project coordinated by Know Center Research GmbH that aims to improve how scientific research is assessed. The initiative, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme, brought together nine organisations from eight European countries for its official kick-off meeting.
The project addresses the need to move towards assessment models that recognise the diversity of contributions to scientific research, beyond traditional indicators such as publication counts or the prestige of academic journals. To this end, REALISE will examine the different methods and tools used to assess research and analyse how they perform in practice, with the aim of developing recommendations to improve current research assessment systems.
Over the next three years, the consortium will collect and analyse research on scientific assessment, examine how different assessment tools and methods work, and explore how institutions introduce changes to their practices. Based on these findings, the project will develop recommendations to help research organisations and policymakers improve their assessment systems.
