About
Álvaro Fernández-Baldor is a tenured associate professor in the Department of Engineering Projects at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and senior researcher at INGENIO. He has an interdisciplinary background, having studied Industrial Technical Engineering (University of Cantabria), Control Engineering (University of the Basque Country), a Master's in Rural Development (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil), and a PhD in Agri-food and Environmental Economics (UPV).
His teaching focuses on the Master’s in Development Cooperation, where he is the current director and coordinates the educational innovation group EICE-MACODE. He also participates in the postgraduate programs on Innovation for Social and Environmental Transformation organized by INGENIO, coordinating the module on the digital socio-technical system.
His research interests include development processes, participatory methodologies, grassroots social innovation, and more broadly, the social impact of technology. In fact, his doctoral thesis analyzed the social impact of rural electrification projects using renewable energy in the Andes, applying the human development paradigm and the capabilities approach.
