The new Environmental Education on the Move (EAR) Guide for the Comunitat Valenciana has been developed through the contributions of dozens of professionals in a participatory process led by a research team from INGENIO (CSIC–UPV), using the Theory of Change methodology.

Carola Calabuig Tormo and Álvaro Fernández-Baldor, UPV lecturers and researchers at INGENIO (CSIC–UPV), facilitated three proposal-generation workshops in Castelló de la Plana, València, and Alicante as part of the development of the new Environmental Education Guide for the Comunitat Valenciana. The workshops brought together dozens of environmental education professionals and members of the public and followed a planning methodology based on the Theory of Change, with the aim of generating recommendations to inform the design of the new guide.

The development of the Action Guide for Environmental Education in the Comunitat Valenciana (Educació Ambiental en Ruta – EAR) 2027–2032, facilitated by a team from INGENIO (CSIC–UPV), sets out the principles that will guide the transition towards sustainability and establishes the strategic framework for environmental education in the Comunitat Valenciana. The project is funded by the Regional Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery (Conselleria de Medi Ambient, Infraestructures, Territori i Recuperació) and promoted by the Centre d’Educació Ambiental de la Comunitat Valenciana (CEACV).

Alongside the participatory workshops, a steering group made up of leading professionals in the field is overseeing the methodological review of the EAR Action Guide and supporting key decision-making throughout the process. The group brings together representatives from public administration, the education and research sectors, civil society, and professional organisations. The process will conclude with a public proposal-prioritisation workshop, open to all citizens, held as part of the 7th Environmental Education Conference of the Comunitat Valenciana at La Harinera in València.

EAR Guide

The aim of the project is to review and update the previous EAR Guide, adopted in 2018, in order to respond to the current global climate, environmental, and social crises and to strengthen the environmental education sector in the Comunitat Valenciana. The participatory process, which is open to the public, brings together educational and social stakeholders involved in environmental education across the Valencian region, including public authorities, professional associations, educational institutions, specialised companies, managers of natural parks, media organisations, and development NGOs, among others.

The new EAR Guide will adopt a global–local approach to environmental and social justice through a participatory process that brings together the wide range of stakeholders involved and promotes collective learning, while recognising and building on the knowledge and experience of all participants.
