Joaquín es Investigador Científico en Estudios Multidisciplinares sobre Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación. Sus temas principales incluyen la generación de conocimiento científico, la transferencia e intercambio de conocimiento entre ciencia, empresas y sociedad, la comunicación y percepción social de la ciencia y la psicología del personal investigador. Publica en revistas como The Journal of Technology Transfer, Research Evaluation, Research Policy o Scientometrics.
Antes de trabajar en INGENIO, Joaquín fue profesor de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (UPV), investigador del Centro Común de Investigación de la Comisión Europea y del Instituto de Políticas Públicas del CSIC. Ha realizado estancias de investigación, entre otras, en CWTS (Leiden), BETA (Estrasburgo), GRETHA (Burdeos) y CINDOC (Madrid).
Joaquín ha liderado varios proyectos como investigador principal y colabora habitualmente con empresas, fundaciones y administraciones públicas. Ha liderado un contrato para la Comisión Europea (Identification of H2020 potential partners for two Portuguese regions in Manufacturing and Circular Economy) y ha contribuido a numerosos informes institucionales. Ha organizado la Conferencia de la Technology Transfer Society de 2018 y diversas sesiones especiales de congreso. Ha escrito varios artículos en revistas o blogs (por ejemplo, Research Europe, University Industry Innovation Magazine, Nada es gratis o El País), ha sido entrevistado para distintos medios de comunicación y ha impartido seminarios para audiencias no académicas.
Joaquín ha supervisado a varios estudiantes de doctorado, becarios de introducción a la investigación e investigadores visitantes en formación. Ha impartido docencia en programas de doctorado, seminarios y talleres de formación, y ha estado involucrado en el apoyo a spin-offs universitarias en la UPV.
