Desarrolla investigación en el campo de los estudios de ciencia y tecnología, en concreto sobre patentes académicas, interacción universidad-empresa y flujos de conocimiento, normalmente con un marcado componente geográfico. Suele publicar en revistas tales como Scientometrics, Research Policy, Research Evaluation, Journal of Technology Transfer, Technovation, etc.

Doctor en Economía por la Universidad de Valencia, está especializado en economía de la innovación y economía de la ciencia. Por su formación complementaria, su trayectoria profesional y sus coautores, las contribuciones en las que ha participado suelen beber de campos como ciencias de la información, administración de empresas, política o geografía.

Ha estado vinculado como becario y profesor a varias instituciones de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (1997-2006). Ha sido investigador postdoctoral del IPTS en Sevilla (2006-2009) y del IPP en Madrid (2009-2010). Es científico titular de INGENIO (CSIC-UPV) en Valencia desde 2010. Durante su carrera, ha realizado estancias de investigación, entre otras, en BETA (Estrasburgo), CINDOC (Madrid), CWTS (Leiden) y GRETHA (Burdeos).

Ha participado en varios proyectos y contratos de investigación, algunos de la Comisión Europea (Models and econometrics of entrepreneurial universities towards the european research area, ERAWATCH Strategic Intelligence Service), para la que ha gestionado contratos con consorcios internacionales de investigadores (Production of data to analyse university references found in patent documents, by geographic origin). Ha presentado contribuciones en congresos, seminarios y cursos típicos del campo de los estudios de innovación: T2S, STI, EuroLIO, ISSI, Harnessing the Powers of Patent Data, etc.

Actualmente es investigador principal de un proyecto nacional y otro regional sobre la integración de la psicología básica y de la personalidad en los estudios de ciencia y tecnología y el uso de la literatura de ficción por parte de los investigadores como mecanismo de transferencia de conocimiento.
